Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has urged his former manager Jose Mourinho to ‘enjoy his life’ after he was sacked by Tottenham on Monday.
Mourinho was relieved of his duties after just 17 months in North London as a result of Spurs’ dismal recent form, and he will now be on the hunt for a new job yet again.
The Portuguese coach was the man who first brought Drogba to Stamford Bridge back in 2004, and the ex-Ivory Coast international clearly still has huge respect for his old boss.
And after Mourinho posted a video on his Instagram account as the news of his sacking was announced, Drogba replied with a message of support which simply read: “Enjoy your life ze. Enjoy it,” along with a number of laughing emojis.
Mourinho’s next move is anybody’s guess, but it appears highly doubtful he will return to Premier League football, with a role at international level currently looking like the most likely option.
Drogba, meanwhile, has recently backed a new Global Partnership for Education (GPE) “Raise Your Hand” financing campaign.
The campaign, launched in October 2020 with the United Kingdom and Kenya, aims to raise at least $5bn to help transform education systems in more than 90 low-income countries and territories, which are home to more than a billion children.
The campaign will conclude at the Global Education Summit in London on 28-29 July, hosted by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Drogba said: “The Raise Your Hand campaign is an opportunity to transform education and unlock a brighter future for more than a billion girls and boys.
“The stakes have never been higher. More than a quarter of a billion children were out of school before the COVID-19 pandemic, and millions more could lose the chance to learn if world leaders don’t step up to invest in education. Raise your hand, fund education.”
GPE CEO Alice Albright added: “We are delighted that Didier Drogba is supporting GPE’s 2021-2025 financing campaign.
“As the education sector faces an unprecedented crisis due to COVID-19, we urgently need to mobilize global support to help countries build strong, resilient and inclusive education systems.
“Didier Drogba’s voice helps carry our message to decision-makers all over the world. If we are to create an equitable and sustainable future, we must put education first.”
UK civil society organisations are calling on the government to contribute £600m towards the global target which would help education systems recover from Covid-19 and enable 175 million more girls and boys to learn.
