Prominent Delta State indigenes in Europe have petitioned the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, over a statement credited to one of his aides which falsely and maliciously referred to the Delta Diapora Village as a scam. The village is an initiative of eminent indigenes of Delta State in Europe.

The letter, which was exclusively obtained by The Podium on Saturday, is fully reproduced below:

H.E. Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa
Executive Governor of Delta State
Government House Asaba Delta State

Excellency Sir,

Date: 29.05.2021

LETTER OF PETITION: COALITION OF DELTA INDIGENES IN DIASPORA

The attention of the coalition of Deltas in Diaspora Europe has been drawn to a post by Dr. Genevieve Mordi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on International Affairs, labeling an initiative of a coalition of Delta State Indigenes in Diaspora to establish a Diaspora village in Delta State “a scam”.

It is shocking and shameful that Dr Genevieve Mordi, could quickly label such initiative from Deltans in Diaspora as a scam without any prior communication or discussion to ascertain the originality or seek clarification. On what basis is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor calling a private Diaspora initiative a scam? Is Dr Genevieve Mordi saying there are no Delta State indigenes in Diaspora? Or that the organisers of the arrangement cannot be involved in such business?

The coalition of Deltans in Diaspora Europe is of the strong opinion that the overzealous Senior Special Assistant to the Governor should have sought clarification from us first before making such defamatory publication that has painted this Noble initiative in a bad light. The expression “scam alert” is a clear expression of crime and indication that such initiative is false and does not exist.

While other SAs across the federation are encouraging their Diasporans to bring such laudable investment to their respective states, it is expected that Dr Genevieve Mordi, thinks and work along this as envisaged by the State Government and work to mobilize Delta state indigenes for homeland engagement, and not choose instead to engage in a proxy fight on behalf of her known Diaspora pay master in Abuja

While this initiative is a purely private one initiated by a well-meaning indigene of Delta state and supported by well-meaning Deltans in Diaspora, efforts are ongoing to partner with Delta State as evident in a letter dated 19th February 2020, with Ref: GHP/COS/T/246 copy to Hon. Kenneth Gbandi and signed by Delta State Chief of staff, Olorogun David Edevbie, and another letter dated 24th March 2020 (here attached), inviting Hon. Kenneth Gbandi for a presentation on Diaspora Village and also signed by Olorugun Lucky Oghene-Omoro.

The coalition of Delta indigenes in Diaspora and friends are therefore calling on Delta State Governor H.E. Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to immediately call Dr Genevieve Mordi, who posted the so called “scam Alert” from Sate House Media platform and demand from her an immediate retraction of the offensive publication and apologies.

The collation of Deltans in Diaspora will hold Dr Genevieve Mordi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on International Affairs and by extension the Government of Delta State liable for any damage materially and financially or any investment fund already secured from our international partners because of this overzealous action by Dr Genevieve Mordi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on International Affairs.

Hon. Kenneth Gbandi is also at liberty to seek a legal.
