Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Delta State chapter, Monday Ifoghere, and his wife.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the couple were kidnapped on Sunday around 7pm while going to their house in Eku, in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
Sources said the wife lost an elder brother recently who was buried on Friday, an event which prompted the family’s journey to Ughelli for the outing service.
“It was while they were returning from the event that they were kidnapped,” a source added.
He noted that the kidnap happened by the Okro Market at Egbo, Kokori.
Another source, an executive of NAPPS in Delta State, who would not want his name in print, said the state executive of the union was having a meeting on Whatsapp on Sunday and suddenly discovered that the chairman was no more participating.
“Minutes later, news broke that he had been kidnapped,” the source said.
He noted that he immediately called his phone number but there was no response.
The source said when he tried the line again, Ifoghere’s daughter answered the call and said she was in the bush after an attack on the family.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, told journalists that the command had yet to be informed about the incident.
He said, “It has not been confirmed yet. We are still trying to check the authenticity of that story.
“Though a Camry car was seen somewhere, we don’t know whether it is for him. We hope the family can come and give us updates. But for now, we cannot confirm the incident.”
It could not be ascertained if the hoodlums had contacted the victims’ relatives for a ransom as of the time of filing this report.
