Yisa Sofoluwe, Popularly known as the “Dean of Defence” by football commentators, has died, aged 53.

He reportedly died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on Tuesday night while waiting to undergo brain Surgery. Impeccable sources hinted that he breathed his last at about 11 pm of Tuesday.

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, had on Tuesday made frantic moves to save his life by sending money for the surgery.

Yisa Sofoluwe was born on 28th December 1967 and won 40 caps scoring one goal for the Super Eagles. He won two African Cup of Nations Silver medals in 1984 and 1988. He was a regular left full back for Nigeria from 1983 to 1988 and was named Dean of Defense by ace football Commentator, Earnest Okonkwo for his football prowess.

Shofoluwe starred for Abiola Babes of Abeokuta, played professional football in Belgium and was an assistant coach for the Golden Eaglets under Alphonsus Dike. He was also an assistant coach at Gateway Football Club of Abeokuta.
