And Ronaldo was visibly emotional after scoring a close-range tap-in from Nuno Mendes’ cross, dropping to his knees and tearing up on the pitch. This moment comes just a week after he opened up about his ambition to reach 1,000 goals before retiring

Speaking on his new YouTube channel: “Soon I will do 900 and, after, I will beat 1,000. “I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don’t have injuries, this, for me, is the most important. I want that. “It’s the best marker I can have in football. There will be one difference: all of my goals have videos, so I can prove that.”

Ronaldo netted 118 goals in 292 appearances for Manchester United, after starting his career with five goals at Sporting Lisbon.

During his nine-year spell at Real Madrid, he amassed an incredible 450 goals in 438 matches. A three-year tenure at Juventus saw him add another 101 goals, followed by 27 more during his second stint at Old Trafford. After moving to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he scored 68 goals in 74 games. On the international stage, Ronaldo has tallied 131 goals in 212 appearances for Portugal.

Ademola AKINBOLA is an author, publisher, trainer, digital marketing strategist, and a brand development specialist with nearly three decades of experience in the areas of branding, communication, corporate reputation management, business development, organizational change management, and digital marketing.
