A small child left alone in a hot car in Slovenia has died as a result of intense heat, the STA news agency reported on Wednesday, citing civil defence authorities.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the town of Prebold, located about 60 kilometres east of the capital Ljubljana. Emergency crews responded but did not reach the child in time.
According to weather services, temperatures of almost 30 degrees Celsius had been measured in Prebold at the time.
Police arrested both parents on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, a police spokesman in the nearby district town of Celje said on Slovenian television.
