HIs name rings a bell in the whole world through sports, especially the game of football (which we called soccer). He has contributed immensely to the growth of the round leather game. He would have been one of the best Presidents of Nigeria Football Federation if given the opportunity to serve his country. Odegbami established the first all sports radio station in the country. He was a member of the greatest team, the Green Eagles that won the first African Cup of Nations for this country.
He also captained the national team for many years before retiring from active soccer. He was in the team that won the first African Winners Cup for this country with the IICC Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan, Oyo State when Brigadier David Madayese Jemibewon was the military governor of Oyo State.. He is a very jovial person, very compassionate and using his talents to catch them young with his football Academy school in Wasinmi, Abeokuta in Ogun State. Dr. Partrick Olusegun Odegbami MON, OLY AFNIIA FNIS was born on August 27, 1952 in Lagos. He was brought up in Jos and started his playing career with Housing Corporation FC Ibadan. From there he joined IICC shooting Stars . He was with Shooting Stars from 1970 till he retired in 1984, helping them to become the first Nigerian football club to win the African Cup Winners cup in 1976.
He made his international debut for Nigeria on October 16, 1976, replacing the injured Baba Otu Mohammed against Sierra Leone. He was voted the 3rd best African footballer in 1977, and happens to be in the elite class of players that scored hat trick for Nigeria. He achieved the feat by netting thrice in the 7-1 spanking of Benin Republic In 1978 in Lagos. Mathematical as he is fondly called is a qualified Mechanical Engineer having graduated from the Ibadan Polytechnic in the 1970s. He was Nigeria’s top scorer in the 1978 and 1980 African Nations Cups in Ghana and Lagos Nigeria respectively. His two goals demolition of Algeria in the 3-0, 1980 Nations Cup final win for Nigeria, remains one of his greatest performances. .Odegbami captained Nigeria between 1980 and 1981, and scored 22 goals in 46 matches for the national team then known as the Green Eagles . He is rated as one of the greatest footballers of all time in Nigeria.
