Zamfara state governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Garba Marafa as Emir of Birnin Yandoto, suspended for turbaning leader of the bandits in the state

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Garba Marafa as Emir of Birnin Yandoto.

The reinstatement of the Emir was announced in a statement on Sunday, by the Secretary to the State Government Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna. According to the government, a committee set up to investigate the issue, found no evidence of any ill motive or collaboration between the Emir and the bandit

The Emir had been suspended in July last year by Governor Matawalle for conferring a chieftaincy title on a banditry kingpin, Ado Aleiru.

Amidst controversies surrounding the exercise, the monarch had had explained that Alieru was honoured based on the major role he played during a peace process arranged between the emirate and bandits who terrorised Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA).

But in the statement on Sunday, Sardauna, Secretary to the State Government, said Marafa’s reinstatement was based on the recommendations of the committee constituted to investigate the issue, adding: “The committee found no evidence of any ill motive or collaboration between the Emir and the bandit.”
