Chief Kenny Martins has declared that the reason why insecurity has continued to fester in Nigeria is because some state actors are sustaining them.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with KAFTAN tv monitored in Lagos on Tuesday, the former CEO of Police Equipment Foundation said if those in government are not sustaining the insurgents, they would have dealt decisively with it and put an end to the ugly incident.
Martins said what would have become a monster under the administration of a former president Olusegun Obasanjo was nipped in the bud because none of the state actors then were interested in both the Oodua Peoples Congress and MASSOB led by Dr. Fredrick Faseun and Gani Adams and Ralph Uwazurike.
Speaking further, he also explained that the Boko Haram started from Borno and grew to become serious problem now because the Governor then said the ‘boys’ who started selling petrol in jerrycans on the streets of Maiduguri will be useful during election.
“ If today, President Muhammadu Buhari, state governors and local government chairmen meet and said Enough is enough, the insecurity will go away without much ado. It’s because the state actors are sustaining them that they continue to fester.
“ Under the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo when there was crisis between the OPC and some Hausas In Mile 12 in Lagos, both Dr. Fredrick Faseun and Gani Adams were arrested and taken to Abuja. And because the state actors then were not interested in the OPC, everything died down and peace returns to Lagos. Also, when Chief Ralph Uwazurike started MASSOB; Movement for the Actualization of Biafra, he was picked up and detained and everything was nipped in the bud.
“ If the federal government had dealt decisively with the terrorists the way it dealt with IPOB, we won’t be having the problem we are having now. I know that we have the best intelligence agencies in nigeria, from the DMI to DSS and others, they are very good, but there’s no resolve and political will on the part of those in government to end the crisis.
“ For instance, the gold miners who are those giving them arms and ammunition? I think we need to find out. How do they get the gold to market? Who are those using helicopters to drop foodstuffs and guns for them? I think the whole issue lies in the ability of those in government to say enough is enough if they really want the crisis of insecurity to end.” He said.
