A new-look PSG, shorn of their superstar cast of yesteryear but talented nonetheless, arrived at the Emirates with ambitions of pulling off a Champions League shock.
But after a decent start, those hopes were quickly dispelled by an Arsenal side that showed the confidence required to go a long way in the competition.
Though the stats may suggest it, this was far from a ‘snatch and grab’ win for the Gunners.

PSG may have had more possession on the night but it was Arsenal who were in control during the match.
The hosts also managed four less shots than their opponents but had a far greater accuracy, which helped them secure the three points.
The Parisians also made far more passes than the Gunners but, ultimately, that was down to them playing it round as they tried to break through Arsenal’s resolute defence.

In truth, it was hardly a close contest as the Gunners stamped their authority on the match early on through Kai Havertz’s header.
The German rose highest to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma to the ball and float an effort into the back of the net.
It didn’t take long for Arsenal to double their advantage as Bukayo Saka’s free-kick went through everyone in the 35th minute.
PSG, on the other hand, barely laid a glove on the Gunners. They were lacklustre and hardly in the game up until their changes.
Randal Kolo Muani offered a focal point up front but, ultimately, it was far too comfortable for the north London outfit tonight.
