APC Senator Who Issued ‘Kill Accord Members’ Threat Congratulates Adeleke on Re-election

Francis Fadahunsi, senator representing Osun east, has congratulated Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, on his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement published on his Facebook page on Friday, Fadahunsi sought Adeleke’s partnership for the peace and progress of the state.

The senator prayed that Adeleke would build on the achievements of his first term in office and deliver more dividends of democracy.

“Permit me to use this medium formally, on behalf of myself, political family, associates, and the good people of Osun East Senatorial District heartily congratulate Your Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on your well-deserved re-election as Governor of Osun State,” the statement reads.

“Your Excellency, having won the confidence and electoral franchise of the people for a second-term, I pray that God Almighty will grant you the wisdom, strength, and grace to surpass your achievements.

“I also pray that you will consolidate the gains of your first-term and deliver even more dividends of democracy to our people, especially my Senatorial District.

“Please accept my assurances of support, collaboration, and partnership as we – you, me, and other stakeholders – work together for the peace, progress, and prosperity of our dear state.

Adeleke, the Accord candidate, polled 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes during the Osun governorship election.

The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won in 11.

President Bola Tinubu had congratulated Adeleke over his re-election.

In the build-up to the Osun governorship election, Fadahunsi asked his supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord if seen during the electoral process in some parts of the state.

“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” Fadahunsi had said.

The senator’s comment sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for his arrest.

In a swift reaction to the backlash generated by the viral video, Fadahunsi attempted to retract his comments, saying his words were misinterpreted.
