Investment platform or Ponzi scheme?

Investors in PXES, an online investment platform, reportedly stormed the company’s offices in Kabba, Kogi State, and Yola, Adamawa State, after they could no longer access their funds or make withdrawals.

In Kabba, frustrated investors reportedly removed furniture and equipment from the company’s office after getting no answers about their money.

PXES entered Nigeria in 2025 and allowed users to earn commissions by completing simple tasks such as reviewing products online. But as with many platforms before it, the system reportedly stopped working when investors began trying to withdraw their money.

The story sounds familiar because Nigerians have seen this pattern repeatedly.

A platform promises attractive returns for little effort. Early users receive their money and encourage others to join. More people invest, sometimes bringing in family and friends through referral bonuses.

Then withdrawals suddenly stop.

From MMM and MBA Forex to CBEX, Nigeria has witnessed several major investment scheme collapses, with investors losing billions and in some cases, trillions of naira.

The biggest lesson remains simple,
A professional website, physical office, and early payouts do not automatically mean an investment platform is legitimate.

If a platform promises unusually high returns with little risk or requires a constant stream of new members to keep people earning, that’s a major red flag.

For the PXES investors now trying to recover their money, however, that lesson may have come too late.
