Awele Vivian Elumelu
Awele Vivian Elumelu was recently in the news for her acquisition of a 5.076 per cent stake in a Lagos conglomerate, Transcorp Plc. Awele, the wife of billionaire investor Tony Elumelu, is a Nigerian medical doctor, with experience in surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and emergency medicine.

She serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Avon Medical Services Limited, a growing network of full-service clinics and onsite facilities with corporate institutions. Awele also operates as Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider. Reports say she established both organisations to provide affordable medical insurance and services to Nigerians from all walks of life.

Furthermore, Elumelu’s wife oversees the healthcare investments of Heirs Holdings, a family-owned investment company committed to improving lives and transforming Africa. As a Trustee at the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Awele passionately advocates for the rights of Africans, women, and children.

Gaynor Rupert
Gaynor Rupert, the wife of Africa’s second richest man, Johann Rupert, is a breeder of racehorses and also manages their Drakenstein Stud Farm. As a breeder, Gaynor has bred three of the current top four horses in South Africa. The trio are Jet Dark, Safe Passage and Rain in Holland. Her Stud Farm comprises 130 hectares of land situated on the lower slopes of the L’Ormarins Wine Estate.

As a manager of Drakenstein, Gaynor has become a dominant force and household name in South African racing. She evolved from being a horse-lover to being an owner as early as 1986, to a breeder of champion racehorses, and now an office-bearer in a relatively short time. Her marriage to South Africa’s richest man blessed her with three children, Anton Rupert, Caroline Rupert and Hanneli Rupert.

Nana Otedola
Wife of Nigerian billionaire, Femi Otedola, Nana is a woman of many talents and interests. Nana in 1999 established Garment Care, a laundry and dry-cleaning service provider with 6 branches located in Lagos, Nigeria. Her cleaning company provides services to customers of large entities like hotels and companies.

Also, Nana reportedly worked as a Petroleum Consultant at Fineshade Energy (UK) Limited before her retirement. Tsitsi Masiyiwa

She is the co-founder of the Higherlife Foundation, an organisation that invests in human capital development to build thriving individuals, communities and sustainable livelihoods.

Under Tsitsi, Delta Philanthropies is unlocking and catalysing innovative solutions to the elimination of poverty by convening strategic partnerships and incubating new development models. Tsitsi who has been globally recognised for her works joined the giving pledge in 2014.

Last year, she launched the Africa Gender Initiative. With the initiative, Tsitsi plans to raise $50 million within the next few years from African philanthropists to support Co-Impact’s $1 billion gender fund. Tsitsi who noted that Africans have a culture of giving said, “If your money isn’t talking it’s difficult to have an authentic voice.”
