Hell hath no fury like a loyalist scorned — and Segun Showunmi is breathing fire.
The former spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar has drawn a battle line, threatening to rip open the secret files of his former political allies if they dare attack him for pitching his tent with President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027.
At a fiery, no-holds-barred media parley in Abuja on Thursday, Otunba Showunmi — once Atiku’s fiercest defender, now a convert to the Tinubu re-election project — lashed out at opposition figures crying wolf over a plot to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

He said their wailing was nothing but a smokescreen to cover their own laziness, disunity and failure to organise.
“Let politics be politics, but let development be the reason why we encourage our people to see what is before their eyes. So, I don’t understand what that distraction is,” he spat, visibly irritated.
Then came the bombshell warning — raw, blunt, and personal:
“If they want to distract, I’m better able to distract them and carry their body around with it. I know where their skeletons are buried. It annoys; it irritates me.”
It was Showunmi unfiltered — defiant, and ready for war.
He dismissed as infantile and dishonest the claim that President Tinubu is driving Nigeria toward a “singularity” — a euphemism for one-party dictatorship.
How, he asked, can anyone accuse Tinubu of building a one-party state in a country with 18 registered political parties and over 100 million registered voters?
According to him, the real problem is not in Aso Rock, but in the broken, selfish opposition that refuses to do the hard work of coalition building.
“When people come, and they don’t do their home work, and then they choose to hang every blame on their rival, as if they don’t know that elections are a pre-joining event, that the date is baptised and already known,” he fumed.
“Their own idea of political parties is that if they don’t have a ticket, the party must die. And they’ve done that many times over… Then they jump into other people’s party, get themselves thrown in court, and keep shouting that somebody sitting in the Villa is trying to make a one-party state.”
For Showunmi, the 2027 election must be about performance, ideas and development — not endless blame games and conspiracy theories.
Having walked the corridors of the Atiku camp, carried its brief, defended its cause, he says he knows the rot inside — and he will not be silenced by those who now see him as a betrayer.
Touch me, he warns, and I will expose you.
The gloves are off.
