Yemi Alade
Afrobeat singer Yemi Alade has candidly revealed that lying about her age for years once led her into a period of depression.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning artiste admitted that she spent three years claiming to be 22, only to later discover she was actually 25.
According to Yemi, the realization was mentally draining and left her struggling to come to terms with the truth about her real age.
“There was a time someone asked me how old I was, and for about three years I kept saying 22. Then one day I calculated it and realised I was already 25,” she recalled.
“I was depressed for a few days because my mind couldn’t process it. It was mental — for three years I didn’t know my age,” she added.
Prompt News reports the “Knack Am” hitmaker described the experience as a turning point, noting that it taught her how self-deception can silently take a toll on one’s mental and emotional well-being.
