Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and so-called ‘PDP Nemesis’, Nyesome Wike, has expressed both joy and sadness at the Federal High Court’s ruling yesterday Friday, October 31 that stopped the annual convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for this month November 2025. Speaking before at a closed-door meeting with concerned PDP stakeholders at Life-Camp Abuja, Wike described the day as one of both his “happiest” and “saddest.”

“It’s like a mixed feeling. If you love your party, you will not be happy with what is going on in your party,” Wike declared, emphasizing the pain felt by all loyalists amid the party’s internal struggles.

He, however, expressed happiness at the development, describing the latest judicial hurdle on PDP’s self-redemption path as “a victory for justice and a rebuke against impunity within the party.”

The former Rivers State Governor who has been widely accused of implacably and inexplicably” standing in the way of PDP’s self-re-invention said: “We are happy that we have fought impunity on their part. Nobody will use us to negotiate for anything. Nobody. Nobody. Nobody will use us to negotiate.”

Although widely accused of sustaining the division in the PDP in order to make the party too weak to challenge APC’s President Bola Tinubu come 2027, Wike praised those he said “stood firmly against division and intimidation”.

“We had no position in 2017. All of us know that… we stood firm and told the ruling government then that we will continue to stand firm and work together,” he said, claiming that “that historical resolve continues to inspire the fight for justice and proper governance within the PDP.”

“Leadership is very key,” Wike argued, condemning what he referred to as “arrogance and the neglect of individual contributions.”

“When people do not recognise the role played by individuals in sustaining the party, then such leadership… does not mean well for the party,” Wike said, apparently referring to the lingering fights in the PDP over his reported insistence on the party following his direction or nothing.

“We are going to challenge any action that we know is a contravention of the various laws,” the FCT Minister stated, noting that the court’s ‘very wise decision’ sends a clear message that the party must follow legal frameworks or risk losing public confidence.”

Nonetheless, the minister called for for “continued dialogue” but cautioned against “capitulation to pressure or intimidation.”

“We are still open to discussion, but nobody will be intimidated,” he declared. “We have one more opportunity… If there are other opportunities to escape, that they should know.”
