In response to allegations that the Nafiu Bala faction of ADC is secretly funded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), acting National Publicity Secretary Bashiru Mohammad has issued a strong denial.

He said such claims are merely propaganda designed to discredit the group’s legal challenge to the David Mark–led coalition.

Speaking on Channels Television, he argued that, as the official in charge of party communications and image, he would be aware of any external sponsorship if it existed.

He recalled that when INEC first recognised the Mark faction, his group was derided as “time wasters,” but chose to respond calmly by pursuing the matter “logically” through the courts rather than by making noise.

According to him, the only thing ADC is demanding today is simple: that INEC obey a valid court order, stop recognising an “unknown group,” and restore the leadership that flows from the party’s constitution.

He said: “Sponsored by APC? What are their proofs of that? That is an allegation. Let me tell you something. In my office as acting publicity secretary, you do not say ‘I might not know.’ I am at the affairs of the party.

I am at the level of the affairs of things in the party. When INEC recognised them, did you say anything? These people always go around to cause chaos. When INEC recognised them, we were mocked. They said, ‘Okay, look at it now. We have been recognised. Look at these time wasters.

But we pursued it logically. We do not make noise. What are we demanding now? We are demanding, on the ground that we have a court order which has been given, that INEC should respect the court order pending the completion of the trial.
