Controversial Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, has said that he remains in charge of the party following a court hearing today, May 12, 2023.

“I’m now in charge,” Lamidi Apapa says, as he also orders lawyers representing the Labour Party at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to meet him within 48 hours for briefing.

According to Apapa, the court has recognized him as the acting national chairman.

Apapa was the Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) when a court ratified Julius Abure’s suspension. Apapa then assumed control of the party amid protests from leaders and members of the party.

Apapa said after the court hearing: “I am so pleased that justice has taken place. Under normal circumstances, we will begin to doubt. But today, we are happy that the judge has acted boldly and reasonably.

“There is no doubt that I am now in charge. The court has now confirmed that I have the right to be in charge until another order takes place.
