Controversial Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, has said that he remains in charge of the party following a court hearing today, May 12, 2023.

“I’m now in charge,” Lamidi Apapa says, as he also orders lawyers representing the Labour Party at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to meet him within 48 hours for briefing.

According to Apapa, the court has recognized him as the acting national chairman.

Apapa was the Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) when a court ratified Julius Abure’s suspension. Apapa then assumed control of the party amid protests from leaders and members of the party.

Apapa said after the court hearing: “I am so pleased that justice has taken place. Under normal circumstances, we will begin to doubt. But today, we are happy that the judge has acted boldly and reasonably.

“There is no doubt that I am now in charge. The court has now confirmed that I have the right to be in charge until another order takes place.

“As of today, I am the Acting National Chairman of the party and anybody who parades himself, apart from myself, is acting illegally.

“I want to tell the whole world that comes next Friday, the real suit will start when the issue of forgery, conspiracy and so forth will commence. And from there, we will know if actually that offence has been committed or not.

“I want to use this opportunity again to tell the whole world that the tribunal that has been going on, I want to invite all the lawyers that are representing the Labour Party that they should come for briefing. They should come and update me on what is happening in that tribunal within the next 48 hours because right now, I’m the person in the driver’s seat and I’m the person that is fully in charge.”
