US-based Nigerian Kills Professor-father, Stabs Sisters

A New Orleans resident, identified as 27-year-old Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been arrested after allegedly killing his father and attacking his two sisters in a violent domestic incident on Pebble Street.

The deceased, Samuel Eweni, was a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans, family members told local outlet WWL Louisiana. They confirmed that the two injured women were his daughters.

Relatives described the attack as shocking and completely unexpected, noting that the suspect had a history of mental health challenges but had never exhibited violent behaviour before.

According to WWL Louisiana, one of the sisters has been discharged from the hospital, while the other remains under medical care but is expected to survive.

In a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Sunday, the New Orleans Police Department said the suspect was traced to Jefferson Parish, where he was taken into custody and placed under medical evaluation.

“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish.

He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the statement read.

Police said the attack occurred at about 9:59 p.m. on November 11, 2025. Officers responding to a distress call about a domestic stabbing found an unresponsive adult male with fatal injuries and two women suffering from stab wounds.

The injured victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Detectives said their investigation led to the identification of Eweni as the prime suspect.

An arrest warrant has been issued for one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

The NOPD added that Eweni was believed to be armed and dangerous before he was apprehended.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is expected to release the official cause of death after completing an autopsy and notifying the family.
