A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Daniel Odubanjo, has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in the United Kingdom for sexually assaulting two females and unlawfully confining one of them in a train toilet during separate attacks on a passenger service.
Odubanjo, who resides on King Avenue in Clapham, South London, was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court of false imprisonment and two counts of sexual assault on a female, following incidents that occurred on November 29, 2024, aboard a train travelling from Shenfield to Chelmsford.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order barring him from being under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance while on public transport, railway stations or Network Rail property.

According to the British Transport Police, the first incident involved a 21-year-old woman who was using a train toilet when Odubanjo persistently banged on the door. When she opened it, he forced her back inside and locked the cubicle.
Police said the victim attempted to draw the attention of another passenger, but Odubanjo restrained her and prevented her from leaving.
She eventually managed to escape after falsely telling him she was underage.
Shortly after the first victim disembarked at Chelmsford, Odubanjo reportedly targeted a 17-year-old girl on the same train.
He was said to have sat opposite her, behaved indecently and asked inappropriate questions.
Despite her attempt to move closer to other passengers, he followed her and carried out another sexual assault.
The second incident was brought to an end when a fellow passenger intervened and restrained Odubanjo until officers arrived. He was arrested when the train stopped at Hatfield Peverel station.
Commenting on the case, Detective Sergeant Hayley Whyte described the attacks as terrifying, noting that they occurred within minutes of each other and left both victims deeply distressed.
She also commended the courage of the victims in reporting the incidents, saying their actions ensured Odubanjo was brought to justice.
