The British Government has announced the appointment of a new high commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery who is expected to take up his appointment in April when he takes over from Catriona Laing as Britain’s representative in Nigeria.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement, adding that before his appointment, Montgomery served as World Bank Group, United Kingdom (UK) Executive Director, Washington, from 2018 to 2022.

The record has it that from 2015 to 2018, he worked with the Department for International Development (DFID) as Director, Asia, Caribbean and Overseas Territories (AsCOT) Division; from 2013 to 2015 Islamabad, Counsellor (Development) and Head of Office, Department for International Development (DFID) Pakistan.

In addition, he was the Department for International Development (DFID) Deputy Director/Head of Corporate Human Resources, and Head of Security, East Kilbride from 2006 to 2009 at the Department for International Development (DFID)

The appointee was Deputy Director and Head of Corporate Human Resources, and Head of Security, East Kilbride from 2006 to 2009; Deputy Team Leader, of Top Management Group from 2005 to 2006; Lusaka, Deputy Head, Zambia from 2002 to 2005, Deputy Team Leader, Top Management Group from 2005 to 2006; Lusaka, Deputy Head, Zambia from 2002 to 2005.

His new posting was not his first time in Nigeria as he had worked as a Counsellor (Development) and Head of Office, Department for International Development (DFID) Nigeria, from 2009 to 2013.
