Thousands of residents in Odo -Ona Elewe, Tipper Garage, Kasumu, Elebu, Agara and Asipa in Ibadan are spending the Yuletide festivities in total darkness.

Newspot correspondent that live in Agara said the whole area has been plunged into total blackout for the past three weeks.

His investigation revealed that the  Zonal office  Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBEDC had little to offer in its often repeated excuse but  one of the officers said these areas ” are of low density with little or nothing coming from there.”

This assumption is countered by Chief Bayo Adesuyi: ” What a big lie. The people in that office are wicked. They are deliberately punishing us because we don’t succumb to their demand of greasing their palms”.

He questioned further: ” How could you throw over 500,000 people into darkness for over three weeks just because they don’t want to be part of their corruption .

These communities have big companies and retail offices and have been running at a loss since they were denied access to electricity.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in his often repeated statement  attributed the current disruption in power supply across its franchise area to a significant reduction in load allocation from the national grid.

In a public notice issued on Friday, the distribution company explained that the drop in power availability has severely impacted its ability to meet the energy demands of its customers in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and parts of Niger, Ekiti, and Kogi states.

“We wish to inform our esteemed customers that the current power outage/low supply being experienced is due to a drop in load allocation from the national grid,” the statement read.

The national grid has collapsed multiple times in 2025, leaving large swathes of the country in darkness and disrupting economic activities.

IBEDC urged customers to remain patient, promising that supply would be normalized once grid stability is achieved and allocation improves.
