A Nigerian soldier has expressed frustration over what he described as injustice within the military, following the reported dismissal of a colleague who spoke out against alleged corruption and the killing of personnel.

The statement, shared online in solidarity, has sparked reactions amid ongoing concerns about accountability in the armed forces.

The soldier, whose identity remains undisclosed, criticised what he sees as a double standard in the system, alleging that trained personnel are punished while repentant insurgents are reintegrated.

Outcry over colleague’s dismissal

“They dismiss a trained soldier easily, but forgive terrorists and recruit them into the army. We will continue to use our voices to speak against corrupt practices in our system, no matter what it takes, he added, suggesting that more personnel may be willing to speak out despite risks. I’m indeed tired and broken,” the soldier stated, reflecting emotional strain over the situation.

Growing concerns within ranks

The development comes amid previous reports of grievances among military personnel regarding welfare, safety and internal discipline.

In past years, some soldiers have faced sanctions for publicly criticising the institution, raising debates over freedom of expression within the armed forces.
