The eighth global unveiling of the print edition of The Podium International Magazine took place on Thursday in Abuja with the Publisher, Mr. Ademola Akinbola, challenging media practitioners to show a greater commitment to fulfilling their roles as change agents in society.
Mr. Akinbola observed that Journalists at all levels have deliberately and inadvertently supported the erosion of the values of integrity and honesty in Nigeria by celebrating villains who masquerade as heroes.
According to him, it is not the duty of the media to perpetrate the dominant paradigm in society, but it is the responsibility of the media to challenge such wrong stereotypes and show the light for the people to follow.
“The media must be at the forefront of the battle to restore our lost glory by fighting against the erosion of sacred values that bind a society together. We cannot, in all honesty, say that we have not been part of the problem” he added while reiterating that The Podium Magazine was established to support efforts to reorientate society.
“Our vision is to become a global media platform reputed for celebrating the success stories of Nigerians with verifiable means of livelihood. We want to continue to identify and showcase Nigerians at home and abroad who are doing good exploits, making an impact, and creating value”, he added.
The Podium International magazine commenced in 2019 as an online information portal via www.thepodiummedia.com. The print edition debuted in 2021 in the United States. The magazine currently circulates in the USA, UK, and Nigeria.
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Ademola Adigun, who delivered a brilliant talk on the Essentials of Career and Business Success, identified hard work, integrity, professionalism, consistency, relationship management skills, ability to network and interact across a wide spectrum of society, as some of the tips professionals and entrepreneurs should embrace.
The Chairman of the occasion, Aare Abiodun Odusanwo, President of the Institute of Tourism Professionals of Nigeria, commended the Publisher and his team and urged Nigerians to return to the good old days when integrity, professionalism, and discipline were the order of the day.
The unveiling, which took place at NICON Luxury Hotel, was well attended by senior career professionals, entrepreneurs, and top government officials. The magazine will be unveiled in Brussels, Belgium and Manchester, the United Kingdom in November.
