Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kwara state to visit Woro village in Kaiama LGA following the recent attacks on communities in the area.

In an X post on Saturday, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s media aide, said the vice-president was in the state on the directive of President Bola Tinubu to assess the situation firsthand and convey the federal government’s condolences to affected families.

Shettima was received on arrival by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, alongside other state government officials.

The visit comes days after gunmen attacked several communities in Kaiama LGA, killing at least 75 residents in what authorities have described as a coordinated terrorist assault.

The attackers were said to have invaded villages, including Woro, opening fire on locals and setting houses ablaze, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes.

Residents claimed the assailants sent letters to the communities ahead of the attack, warning of their intention to “preach” to the villagers — a claim that heightened fears of an organised extremist operation.

AbdulRazaq had blamed Islamic extremists for the massacre, while describing the incident as an act of terrorism rather than communal violence or banditry.

Tinubu had earlier condemned the killings, vowing that those responsible would not “go scot-free”, while directing security agencies to hunt down the perpetrators.

Following the attack, the federal government deployed troops to the affected communities to restore order and prevent further violence.
