Russia carried out one of its largest aerial assaults of the war overnight, striking an American-owned factory in western Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Moscow launched 574 drones and 40 missiles, targeting multiple regions far from the eastern and southern battlefronts.

The barrage killed one person and injured at least 15 others.

Among the targets was a facility in Mukachevo, Zakarpattia, belonging to Flex Ltd, a Texas-based multinational electronics manufacturer.

Video footage showed the factory engulfed in flames. The plant, which produces consumer electronics and auto components, had about 600 workers inside when the strike occurred.

Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, condemned the attack as “terror against people, businesses, and normal life.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky added that Russia had “wasted several cruise missiles against a regular civilian enterprise” that makes products such as laptops, consoles, and even coffee machines.

The overnight assault was Russia’s third-largest drone attack this year and its eighth-largest missile strike, Ukraine said.

Explosions were also reported in Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv, while Poland scrambled jets to secure its airspace. Warsaw later confirmed there were no airspace violations.

The attack came just days after Vladimir Putin met US President Donald Trump in Alaska, where the Kremlin demanded Ukraine withdraw from the Donetsk region as part of peace terms.

Zelensky, however, said Moscow showed no genuine interest in negotiations and urged Western allies to respond with tougher sanctions and tariffs.

Flex is not the first American company to be hit by Russian strikes. Boeing’s Kyiv offices were targeted earlier this year.

The White House had previously insisted that American investments in Ukraine would deter Russian attacks, citing its minerals partnership with Kyiv.

Ukraine responded with strikes of its own, hitting an oil refinery in Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk region and a fuel base in Voronezh.

Zelensky also revealed Ukraine had successfully tested its “Flamingo” long-range cruise missile, capable of striking targets up to 3,000km away, with mass production planned for early next year.

Meanwhile, tensions around future peace talks are intensifying. Trump and Zelensky had discussed a trilateral summit with Putin, but the Russian leader instead proposed direct talks with Kyiv in Moscow — an offer swiftly rejected by Ukraine, which favours a neutral venue like Geneva.

As allies debate what security guarantees they can provide Ukraine, Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, warned that any deployment of European troops to enforce a ceasefire would be “absolutely unacceptable.”
