The Federal Government has cautioned against any attempt to breach or desecrate the sanctity of its custodial centres ahead of the planned nationwide protest on Monday, October 20, 2025, calling for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Abubakar Umar, declared that all correctional facilities across the country have been designated as “Red Zones.”

“In light of the planned nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025, calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the public is hereby informed that all correctional centres are declared as RED ZONES,” Umar stated.

He emphasized that the facilities remain restricted areas, warning that individuals without official business have no reason to approach or loiter around them.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service reiterates that correctional centres are restricted areas, and anyone who has no official business therein should stay off to avoid any untoward incidents or security breaches,” the statement added.

Umar further urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies and maintain peace, stressing the importance of respecting all restricted areas, particularly correctional facilities, to ensure public safety and order.
