Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State was thrown into turmoil on Friday when the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and son, Prince Victor Bakare, were reportedly assaulted by some irate youths.

The clash was said to have erupted at Ishara quarters while the town marked its annual New Yam Festival. Prince Victor, who had travelled home for the celebration, was caught up in the attack and beaten.

Speaking with journalists at the palace, Prince Victor, who displayed injuries from the incident, alleged that the assailants targeted not only him but also his parents.

He said his mother was stripped half-naked while the traditional ruler was harassed. According to him, “the youths poured urine and other dirty substances on me for reasons best known to them.”

Oba Bakare, reacting to the incident, expressed sadness over what he described as persistent acts of hostility from a section of the youths in the town, stressing that the development was “unfortunate.”

The monarch, however, acknowledged the prompt action of security operatives, particularly the police, whose intervention, he said, stopped the violence from spreading.

The Amotekun Corps Coordinator in Idogun, Mr. Omatayo Johnson, also confirmed the unrest, explaining that security agents were immediately deployed to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
