Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has approved the award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) by Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, a mission towards improving the educational provision in the state to meet the demand for technological and vocational manpower needed for development,

Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Yemi Ajibola made this known in a statement on Wednesday adding that the Governor, Dapo Abiola gave the approval in a letter signed by the State Director, Primary and Higher Education, Dr. Olanloye Waheed.

The institution’s spokesman said the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu conveyed the approval of the letter dated March23, 2021 to the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji

“His Excellency, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, has graciously granted approval to commence the process of affiliation with Olabisi Onabanjo University for the purpose of running B.Tech programmes”, the letter reads.

The letter further explained that the approval will be in tandem with the requirements approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), adding that the ‘B. Tech approval to the polytechnic is also a confirmation of the Governor’s keen interest in education to align it with the demands of modern trends which places a premium on technological and vocational skill acquisition.

Governor Abiodun, on assumption of office promised to revive Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) with the pronouncement to return the institution to status quo ante.

The Acting Rector while reacting to the development maintained that the programme will retain and sustain the hand-on policy of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) policy, and explained that the B.Tech will be, mainly, for National Diploma graduates of programmes accredited by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the Polytechnic.

“The reason is that we want to give maximum benefits to all our products and their counterparts from other institution within the context of the programmes accredited in the Polytechnic. As soon as all arrangements have been concluded with OOU and NUC, there is assurance that the programme will begin before the end of this year.”

The Rector on behalf of the management, staff, and students of the polytechnic, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the governor, for this giant offer to the institution, and promised that the institution will continue to key into the “Building our future together” agenda of the Ogun State Government.
