The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State on Wednesday conducted peaceful ward congresses across all 20 local government areas of the state, with party members commended for their orderly conduct and commitment to internal democracy.

The exercise followed the endorsement of the convention timetable by the party’s National Working Committee and APC governors, outlining a series of activities leading to the party’s national convention scheduled for next month.

Speaking after the congress in Ward 3, Iperu, in Ikenne Local Government Area, Governor Dapo Abiodun praised the calm atmosphere that characterised the exercise across the state, describing it as a reflection of unity and maturity within the party.

He also commended the immediate past ward executives for their leadership and achievements, noting that their managerial competence had strengthened the party at the grassroots.

Abiodun acknowledged that not all members could emerge as party executives and appealed for understanding and cooperation, assuring party faithful that their welfare would continue to receive attention.

“Outside the All Progressives Congress, there is no other party; every other party is a counterfeit. The APC remains the one and only party, not just in Nigeria but the leading party in Africa,” the governor said.

He further appreciated ward members for their support during the recent House of Representatives by-election and the e-registration exercise, urging them to remain steadfast in backing the party and his administration to sustain the delivery of democratic dividends.

At the end of the congress held at the ward secretariat in the Iregun area of Iperu, Alhaji Sanni Razaq was elected Ward Chairman, Yinka Balogun emerged as Secretary, while Morouf Okugboye became Vice Chairman.

Similarly, at Ward 3 in Sango-Ota, the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the congress as peaceful and foundational to the emergence of credible grassroots leaders.

She commended party faithful for their discipline and orderly behaviour, adding that the peaceful outcome across the state once again demonstrated that the APC remains the party to beat in Ogun State.

According to her, no political party can thrive without a strong grassroots structure, stressing that the successful and peaceful congresses had further positioned the party for future electoral success.
