Family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed concern over what it describes as the British government’s inaction regarding the circumstances surrounding his continued detention by the Nigerian government.

They, therefore, urged the UK Government to stop all diplomatic and legal support that sustains the trial of their son in Nigeria.
In a statement titled: ‘Kanu Family Earthquake Statement: Britain’s Role in the Case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’, and made available to the press by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the family urged the UK to take a firmer stance in defending the rights of its citizens.

The spokesperson for the Kanu family, Emmanuel Kanu, who made the call in a statement yesterday in Abuja, further urged the UK government to initiate a parliamentary inquiry into the roles played by the British High Commissions in Nairobi and Abuja in the scandal.
Kanu also urged the UK government to publicly accept responsibility for its alleged complicity in the illegal rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and demand his return to either Kenya or the United Kingdom.
“If anything happens to our brother, the Kanu Family will hold the United Kingdom responsible. Not because they failed to act, but because they chose to act on the side of evil. Their silence is not neutrality. It is an endorsement of tyranny,” he added.
