The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has said that growing public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could spark calls for a constitutional amendment to allow him remain in office beyond the current two-term limit.
In a statement issued on Sunday to celebrate Tinubu’s 74th birthday, the monarch described the President as a bold and decisive leader whose policies are laying a fresh foundation for Nigeria’s progress.
According to him, many Nigerians may eventually demand a review of the constitution to extend Tinubu’s tenure, citing what he believes are the positive effects of the administration’s reforms.

The traditional ruler pointed to improvements in key economic indicators, including a stronger naira, rising foreign reserves, and increased investment inflows. He attributed these gains to major policy decisions such as exchange rate unification and efforts to boost oil production.
Oba Akanbi also commended the President for granting greater autonomy to local governments, increasing allocations to states, expanding infrastructure projects, and rolling out palliative measures at the grassroots level.
He noted that while past administrations attempted similar reforms, they often backed down under public pressure. In contrast, he said, Tinubu has shown the resolve to take tough decisions and stand by them.
The monarch added that although the reforms are beginning to yield results, the next phase for the country should focus on achieving economic stability and improving living standards.
President Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, marked his 74th birthday quietly, citing the current national mood and economic challenges.
Under Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, presidents are limited to two terms of four years each. Any move to extend that limit would require broad constitutional amendments approved by both the National Assembly and state legislatures.
