Nigeria – US: Meet Brian Browne, the American who could shape Tinubu’s administration

For nearly 10 years, retired American diplomat Brian Browne has served as the de facto chief of staff to Lagos godfather Bola Tinubu. With Tinubu set to be inaugurated as president on 29 May, The Africa Report looks into the life of a man whose advice could determine the destiny of over 200 million people. 

Often clad in a suit and tie and rectangular lens glasses, Browne comes across as an assuming man and blends in with the crowd whenever he attends events organised by Tinubu. However, those close to Tinubu know that Browne is very powerful as he is responsible for planning the latter’s schedule and determines who is worthy of working in the Lagos godfather’s team.
