NANS Lagos Unveils New Executives

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Lagos State, has inaugurated its newly elected executives, marking the commencement of a new administration.

The swearing-in ceremony brought together student leaders and stakeholders from institutions across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the chairman, Ridwan Ajayi, on Saturday.

In his inaugural address, Ajayi pledged commitment to advancing the welfare, rights, and aspirations of Nigerian students.

He called for unity across all campuses regardless of political differences and urged student leaders to embrace a renewed sense of responsibility.

“This administration represents a new era of renaissance student leadership, one that prioritises accountability, inclusiveness, and impactful engagement. We are fully prepared to serve, to lead, and to deliver on the mandate given to us by the students,” he said.

Ajayi said the administration would focus on strengthening advocacy, expanding access to opportunities for students, fostering strategic partnerships, and ensuring that the voice of Lagos students remained strong at all levels.

The association also called on government institutions, educational authorities, and development partners to collaborate in addressing challenges facing students and the education sector.

The statement added, “The newly inaugurated leadership reassures all students in Lagos State, Nigeria, of its readiness to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and effective representation, while working tirelessly to build a more united and progressive student community.”

Ajayi’s emergence followed a dramatic chairmanship election held at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, on March 28, in which the contest ended in a 5-5 tie between him and another candidate, Odewumi Quadri.

The convention chairman, Sanni Sulaimon, invoked his constitutional powers to cast the deciding vote in Ajayi’s favour.

Sulaimon had described the election as one that “strictly adhered to constitutional provisions and democratic principles, ensuring fairness and legitimacy in the outcome.”
