In an exclusive interview with Edmund Obilo, Dosumu said her father, Awolowo, woke up in the morning as usual and went into the bathroom, locking the door behind him. After a few minutes passed, her mother began to worry because he had not come out.

Dosumu said that her mother then called the family driver, who had worked with Awolowo for 50 years. Together, they tried to open the door by inserting a big stick through the opening. She said when the door opened, her mother and the driver found out that Awolowo had passed away.

In Dosumu’s words: “Mama said this is what happened, that papa had woken up in the morning but he locked the door to go to the bathroom. But after a few minutes she thought he should have come out of the bathroom and she knocked gently but no answer. She knocked loudly, no answer. Then she called his driver of 50 years and they inserted a big stick, and at that point they knew that there was something seriously wrong”
