Last November, outgoing President Donald Trump accused Joe Biden of stealing the US presidential elections in a ballot that was allegedly rigged by postal votes. These accusations had culminated in the assault on the Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump in January.

As relayed by Daily Mail, a group of former servicemen from the United States Army high command calling itself “Flag Officers 4 America” published an open letter in which it reiterates the accusations of electoral fraud, while at the same time taking to the sanity of the current president, Joe Biden.

In this letter, the retired military contends that the American nation is “in great peril” after an “assault on our constitutional rights.” They denounce among other things an administration that would have taken a “turn to the left towards socialism and a Marxist form of tyrannical government”.

They add that Biden’s “mental and physical state” “cannot be ignored”, taking recurring invective of the Trump administration on the mental health of the current president. Extract from the open letter.

While it is not uncommon for retired officers to take sides in electoral politics, the inflamed, even angry tone, as well as the conspiratorial words of this letter have caused a stir in the United States. Many Pentagon officers have reacted lately to denounce his use of the stature of generals to spread misinformation.

Traditionally, experts train military officers to avoid giving their political opinion. During their service, they are also prohibited from engaging in partisan political activities.

Ademola AKINBOLA is an author, publisher, trainer, digital marketing strategist, and a brand development specialist with nearly three decades of experience in the areas of branding, communication, corporate reputation management, business development, organizational change management, and digital marketing.
