In a statement on Friday by Head Corporate Communication Kolawole Ojelabi, this change is expected to bring about a 44% time savings for commuters.
The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line has announced it will operate every 10 minutes starting from Monday, August 11, 2025, significantly reducing journey time by eight minutes and improving overall efficiency.
In a statement on Friday by Head Corporate Communication Kolawole Ojelabi, this change is expected to bring about a 44% time savings for commuters.
With the new schedule, Blue Line trips will increase to 90 from 72 on weekdays, while Sunday trips will remain unchanged at 22, Ojelabi explained.
To accommodate the increased frequency, the spokesperson said four train sets will be deployed during peak hours, and two trains will operate during off-peak hours.
Quoting the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, the reduction in headway is made possible by the new rolling stock procured for the Blue Line by the Lagos State Government with support from the Federal Government.
“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” Akinajo said.
She explained that the “increase in the number of trips and rolling stock foreshadows the operation of the entire Blue Line when the infrastructure is completed to the terminal point at Okokomaiko, In the last quarter of 2026.”
LAMATA spokesperson revealed that the Blue Line, which commenced passenger operation on September 4, 2023, has moved over 5 million passengers to date.
“The second phase of the project, currently under construction, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with passenger operations set to begin in the first quarter of 2027,” the statement noted.
