A Nigerian lady has gone viral after sharing a video of herself and her family returning home to Nigeria after spending 6 years in the United Kingdom (UK), despite being British citizens and Canadian permanent residents.

The woman, who tagged the video “Japada,” a playful twist on “Japa,” the slang for relocating abroad, revealed that their decision to return was entirely personal and not due to any immigration or financial issues.

According to her, she, her husband, and their children are all British citizens and Canadian permanent residents, but they chose to move back home for reasons best known to them.

In her words, “I know what you guys are thinking. Maybe we have immigration issues, or the UK system caught up with us. No, none of that happened. As a matter of fact, we are British citizens and Canadian permanent residents. We made a choice, we believe it was time to go home and leave a country we’ve called home for 6 years.”

She revealed the family is not going back to the UK as they have said their final goodbye to the foreign land.

“When I said goodbye, I mean a forever goodbye to the UK. I don’t think we can ever go back to the UK to live. We’ve rented out our properties,” she narrated.

The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with some people praising their courage to return and others questioning why anyone would leave such opportunities abroad.

“You made the right decision. I wish I have fully established myself in Uk I swear me sef go japada. Life in UK is very tough. Best is to have a business in Uk that will sustain you in Nig plus your Nig hustle,” a user, Julu commented.

Baba Sir Man also said, “you are not japada but relocating back to Nigeria. you are fully protected by UK passport , you should have gone back when you have not gotten uour passport. it is your option to move back but stoo all this yeye so called content.”

Akeem said, “Best decision. Watch your peace of mind grow and glow up ”

Some users also question the possibility of having a UK citizenship within 6 years.

Chioma Jesus said, “How possible it is to become a British citizen within years dear, please tell me i want to become as well, anyway good luck”

Jyde also said, “Japada -Yes -Possible Canada PR – Possible (Conditional) British Citizenship (6years) – Highly Unlikely!”

“You can never get a British passport in 6 years,” Bridget Uchendu argued.

While some Nigerians are working hard day by day to look for enough money to ‘japa’ to foreign lands, some are working as hard as possible to ‘japada’ to their country and this lady narration is evident.
