Popular relationship coach and clergyman Kingsley Okonkwo has stirred reactions after telling single men that marriage could be the key to their financial growth.

Speaking during a recent service, Okonkwo argued that many men wrongly believe they need money before getting married.

“Many single men think ‘it is because I don’t have money that I am not married.’ No, it is because you are not married that is why you do not have money.”

According to him, statistics show that married men generally earn more than single men because marriage creates responsibility and drive.

“As a single man, you don’t have to make more money… But if you are married, whether you like it or not, you have to. Once you set things in motion, everything within you begins to push you to the next level.”

⏳ “Marry in the Days of Your Youth”

The pastor emphasised that marriage should happen while a man is still young and energetic, not at 40 and above.

He listed three things young men should prioritise:

 1. Bear their burdens early (build their career).

 2. Know the Lord in their youth.

 3. Marry the wife of their youth.

He added that starting major life ventures later in life can be more challenging, as “everything about you begins to change after 40.”

The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that responsibility can inspire financial growth, while others argue that financial stability should come before marriage.

What do you think — does marriage increase a man’s earning potential, or should financial security come first?
