The Government of Ireland is inviting qualified Nigerians with leadership potential to apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme: Casement Fellowship in Human Rights.

The programme targets early- to mid-career professionals who demonstrate leadership capacity and a commitment to advancing human rights. It aims to provide recipients with high-quality education that enhances their ability to contribute meaningfully to development and capacity-building in Nigeria.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16—which advocates for inclusive, accountable, and effective institutions—the fellowship promotes gender equality, equal opportunity, and diversity. Applications are encouraged from a broad range of backgrounds, including women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from minority or disadvantaged groups.

Benefits

Successful applicants will receive a fully funded one-year master’s degree in Ireland, covering:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Visa application fees
  • Medical and travel insurance
  • Economy-class return flights
  • Irish Residence Permit (IRP)
  • A monthly living stipend of €700
  • Accommodation support valued between €800 and €1,000 per month

The programme also provides support to help fellows apply the knowledge and skills gained upon returning to their home country.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident national of Nigeria.
  • Have at least two years of substantial, relevant work experience.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0, equivalent to a first-class or second-class honours.
  • Not already holding a master’s degree or higher qualification.
  • Identify and select three eligible programmes from the Casement Fellowship Directory of Eligible Programmes
  • Submit all required documentation, including valid ID, degree certificate, and final academic transcripts

Women, persons with disabilities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
