A 300-level Computer Science student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBB), Lapai, Niger State, Kelvin Danlami, has tragically lost his life in an incident reportedly linked to gambling.
According to reports, Danlami took his own life on Monday, 19 January 2026, after mismanaging N150,000 that had been entrusted to him for house rent on gambling activities.
In response, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of IBB University expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In a statement signed by Comrade Aliyu Abubakar, General Secretary, the SUG extended condolences to Danlami’s family, friends, and the university community.
The statement described Kelvin’s death as “a tragic and irreplaceable loss,” emphasizing the impact on his family, department, and the broader university community.
“On behalf of the entire student body of IBB University, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, friends, the Department of Computer Science, and all students of the university over this painful loss,” the statement read.
The SUG also prayed for strength and comfort for Kelvin’s loved ones, asking that Almighty God grant them fortitude during this difficult time.
The incident has raised concerns within the university about the dangers of gambling among students, highlighting the urgent need for awareness programs and support services to address gambling addiction.
