The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, of orchestrating a plot to set him up with his estranged Canadian wife, Chanel Chin, amid a deepening rift between the two prominent Yoruba monarchs.

In a now-viral Instagram video reacting to reports of his suspension by the Ooni, Oba Akanbi alleged that Ogunwusi attempted to “kill” him and claimed he was instrumental in helping the Ooni ascend the throne.
The Oluwo further alleged that his former wife was “packaged” as an agent to entrap him, saying she posed a threat to his life.

“They packaged a woman for me from Canada. I don’t know her. She was in my house for three years. She had a child which I don’t even know if the child is mine right now, I have to confirm that through DNA,” Oluwo said.
According to the monarch, the estranged wife allegedly poisoned him twice and attempted to assassinate him.
He accused the Ooni of accommodating and lodging her after she left his palace. “Ask him what he was doing with the lady at the hotel. He was the one that accommodated her and rented a house for her,” Oluwo alleged.
Rejecting news of his suspension by the Ooni, Oba Akanbi insisted that the Ooni had no authority to suspend him, saying: “Can a paramount ruler suspend another paramount ruler? Never.”
The accusations mark an escalation in the long-running dispute between the two Yoruba royal fathers, which has drawn public attention across the Southwest.
