Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode said the late MKO Abiola, who won the 1993 presidential election funded the coup that removed Buhari as nm military dictator in 1983.
Fani-Kayode commended Buhari for declaring June 12 Democracy Day despite knowing the coup that ousted him from power was funded by Abiola.
“MKO Abiola funded the coup that removed Buhari from power in 1983 yet it was the same people he put in power that year that annulled his election as President 10 years later in 1993.
“What an irony! Again the same Buhari he removed from power in 1983 was the one that, 27 years later& once back in power, apologised for the annulment of his 1993 presidential election & mandate even though he had no hand in it& immortalised his name by declaring June 12th Democracy Day. This is instructive! No matter what you say or think about Buhari, he did well on this one!,” he said on Twitter.
Democracy Day is marked on June 12 to commemorate the day Abiola won the election which was annulled by Ibrahim Babangida who overthrew Buhari.
Nigerians took to the streets on June 12 to protest bad governance in the country.
