The family of former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCFR, has announced the passing of Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari, the last surviving wife of the late former President.
She passed away in Sokoto earlier today at approximately 3:00 PM after a prolonged illness. She was 89 years old
The announcement was made by Capt. Muhammad Bala Shagari (Rtd.), Sarkin Mafaran Shagari and Head of the Family.
In the official statement, Capt. Bala Shagari described the late Hajiya Sutura as:
“An embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength, a devoted mother, grandmother, and matriarch who lived a life defined by dignity and compassion.”
The family noted that her passing is “deeply felt” and requested prayers for the repose of her soul.
Funeral arrangements, in accordance with Islamic rites, will be communicated in due course.
