Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to sundry reports from the capital of the northwest state.

Matawalle capitalised on the convoluted primary elections in the APC, which led to the failure of the party to satisfy INEC requirements, to become Governor after the verdicts by the courts.

Before his reported defection on Sunday, the governor had long been speculated as heading for the APC.

He was one of the four governors that were reported to be getting ready to dump the PDP for the APC.

The three others were Governors David Umahi (Ebonyi), Ben Ayade (Cross River) both of whom had already defected to the APC and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) who has yet to defect even though thre are strong indications that he would move.

A source close to the development said it was just a question of “the appropriate timing and time.”

With Matawalle now in the APC ship, though yet to be formally confirmed by him, the speculations were 75 percent complete and correct.

Excited about the reports from Matawalle’s camp in Zamfara, Personal Assistant to Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on Digital and New Media, Bashir Ahmed, took to his verified Facebook page to share some positive words.

On Sunday morning, the presidential aide wrote: ‘’So, Zamfara is back home! Welcome, Matawalle’’.

The governor and his aides have yet to officially confirm his defection.
