Sequel to the earlier reported blockage of Lagos-Ibadan expressways by protesting Truck drivers around Ogere, the Ogun State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that the matter has been resolved and normalcy has also returned.
The Command said both sections of the road has been opened-up for free-frow of traffic with the strict intervention of police, TRACE, FRSC, Seriki Hausawa of both Ogere and Iperu.
FRSC said: “The narrative that FRSC personnel took one of the truck’s batteries away was a big lie. it was TRACE official that actually did it and brought it back eventually after the intervention. This was a great concern by our headquaters.
“The angry protestants agreed to remove the vehicles from the road. Although the road is flowing now but we have backlog of traffic being managed by personnel from Ogere Unit Command, FRSC statement concluded.”
The earlier statement by TRACE spokesperson, Cdr Babatunde Akinbiyi, read “OGERE GRIDLOCK: THE UNBECOMING ATTITUDE OF ARTICULATED VEHICLE DRIVERS..
In its endeavour to sanitize and restore orderliness, especially in the wee-hours of the night, along the Ogere-Sapade corridor of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, noted for its rowdiness, disorderliness and dangerousness, the Ogere Division Task Force (made up of TRACE, NIGERIAN ARMY, NIGERIAN POLICE and TRANSPORT UNIONS), earlier today, Wednesday,10th December 2025, apprehended three trucks for illegal double-parking on the Ogere-Sapade axis of the Expressway, which has been a recurring traffic challenge, despite having access to multiple trailer parks, both private and government owned, thereby causing obstruction, traffic gridlocks, avoidable road crashes and narrowing the traffic corridor.
However, one of the apprehended truck drivers (a Dangote Truck Driver) reported back at the Task Force Office by 0700hrs, spitting so much fire and brimstone, in a bid to secure his truck.
Moreover, the said driver exhibited high-handedness, irrational and uncompromising disposition, threatening to cause chaos if he wasn’t attended to immediately, even though the time for proper documentation, sensitization and enlightenment, prior to release, which are the due process to be followed after a traffic infraction has been committed and apprehension made, and which is 0800hrs, has already been announced to him.
Unfortunately, he left in annoyance and went on to instigate his co-Dangote Truck Drivers, a deliberate act, intended to cause mayhem, obstruction, delay in travel time, and expose road users to risk and danger, along the Ogere-Sapade road, advertently to embarrass the state government.
Nevertheless, orderliness has been restored through the intervention of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunnowo, PhD, the Seriki Hausawa of Ogere and the Ag. TRACE Commander General/CEO, Cdr Omonayajo Elias, who has also ordered the release of the earlier apprended trucks, which was handed over to Seriki Hausawa and other transport union representatives, so as to douse the already buildup tension along the axis. Albeit the road is now open, as normalcy is gradually been restored, vehicular movement along the stretch is still at a slow pace because of the accumulated backlog.
Nonetheless, TRACE reiterates its commitment to ensuring strict compliance to traffic rules and regulations, especially as the ember months peaks, while charging fleet operators and articulated vehicle drivers to uphold basic safety standards that guarantees safety of lives and property in their operational methodology.
