Four passengers were killed in the early hours of Sunday after a Toyota Hilux van conveying six occupants plunged into the Ososa River along the Ijebu-Ode–Sagamu Expressway.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the crash occurred around midnight.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

Akinbiyi explained that officials received a distress report shortly after the accident and, upon arrival at the scene, recovered the bodies of four unidentified male adults.

He said preliminary findings suggested that speeding and loss of control led to the lone crash.

“A fatal road accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday involving a vehicle that plunged into the Ososa River,” Akinbiyi said.

“The accident involved a lone white Toyota Hilux conveying six people. Investigations revealed that it was probably caused by speeding and loss of control.

Emergency responders, including TRACE, the police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, recovered four male adults dead.”

He added that the bodies have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode.

According to him, emergency teams also cleared the affected stretch of the expressway to prevent further incidents.
