Residents of River Valley Estate in the Ojodu – Berger area of Ogun State and the family members of Mr and Mrs Ayoola Ayanwale are yet to come to terms with the unspeakable tragedy that has befallen the couple. It’s alleged that the man killed himself a day after murdering his wife in cold blood at their home.
First to come was the murder of Ganyat Ayobami Ayanwale said to have been carried out by the husband on Thursday January 8 at their home in the estate.
Ayoola was said to have fatally stabbed the wife , who bore him 3 children in the course of a domestic squabble around 8PM. He thereafter fled. Attempts to save the woman, after the daughter of the couple raise the alarm ,failed as she succumbed to the injuries inflicted on her by the husband.
Security agents and concerned residents then began a manhunt for Ayoola. All through Thursday January 8 and in the early hours of Friday January 9, he could not be found. Residents also made e.flyers declaring the man wanted.
However around 5PM on Friday January 9 a body said to be that of Ayoola was found at the new site of Palmgroove CDA Sotubo area of Ogun State. And those who found the body believed that Ayoola committed suicide when the gravity of the offence he committed dawned on him. There were foamy substances in the mouth of the deceased leading to speculation that he may have ingested a poisonous substance since a bottle of sniper was also found near the body.
Police Confirmation:
The Nigeria Police Force Ogun State Command through the Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, has confirmed the double tragedy. Babaseyi said Ayoola was found gasping for breath in an open field in the Sotubo area of Ogun State. He was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

He also confirmed that two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card, found where Mr Ayoola was discovered confirmed the deceased’s connection to the earlier murder case.
The Police also said the couple’s three children have been placed in the care of relatives.
He said a full investigation has been ordered by the commissioner of police .The case has therefore been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
