EPL: Iwobi Breaks Premier League Record for Most Nigerian Appearances

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi etched his name into Premier League history on Saturday, becoming the Nigerian player with the most appearances in the competition.

The Fulham midfielder reached the milestone in his 299th league game during a narrow 1–0 defeat to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

With this appearance, Iwobi surpassed the long-standing record of 288 Premier League matches previously held by Newcastle United legend Shola Ameobi, a benchmark that had remained unchallenged for 11 years.

According to Bold Sports on Saturday, despite Fulham’s defeat, it was a memorable occasion for the 29-year-old midfielder, who achieved the feat against the club where he made his Premier League debut.

Iwobi’s 299 appearances come from three clubs: 149 for Arsenal, 140 for Everton, and 85 for Fulham, including the game against Arsenal
