Edo Local Government Council in Ekiti State yesterday sealed off the office of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) at Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti over its alleged inability to remit N15million owed the council.

The workers and customers were stranded.

Speaking about the development, the council Chairperson, Mrs. Omotunde Fajuyi, said the decision to shut the office was caused by the failure of BEDC to pay accumulated debts.

She said the council took the decision after its entreaties to seek amicable resolution of the issue were frustrated by the electricity distribution company.

The BEDC spokesman in Ekiti State, Kayode Brown, however, denied that the company was indebted to the council.

He said the fee being demanded is not payable in other three mandate states of the company.

He said the company recently paid N13 million to the government’s coffers as tenement rate and other charges.
